Experience Learning Beyond the Classroom
Experience Learning Beyond the Classroom
At Ngākuru School, we offer a wide range of EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) opportunities. Our students enjoy hands on learning through exciting adventures and real world experiences. Explore some of the recent activities our tamariki have been part of in the photo gallery below or on our school facebook page.
We are passionate about our sport and field several hockey teams. We have had a number of representative players chosen for Rotorua and Bay of Plenty teams. Our students also enjoy playing club rugby, netball, cricket and football. We have a Tri Schools arrangement with Upper Atiamuri School and Horohoro School and get together for sporting fixtures throughout the year. Our tamariki also qualify for and compete at Central Bay of Plenty events such as cross country, athletics and swimming.
Leadership is an important part of the experience for our Year 7 and 8 students. As our tuakana, they have both the privilege and responsibility of being leaders within our school. Our intermediate students receive Tuakana badges and take on leadership roles across the school. They attend GRIP Leadership, run clubs and activities for younger students, and meet with the principal each week for leadership sessions.
Our Year 5 to 8 students also take part in annual camps, giving them the opportunity to experience learning and challenges beyond the classroom. Our camp cycle includes experiences such as Snow Camp, Lake Camp, Beach Camp and a traditional catered Camp. These opportunities are an important part of developing confidence and character while creating some pretty special memories along the way.
